Custom GLP Impressions for Richard Martin Lighting

27 October 2008 14.30 BST

('Television') - We don’t usually bring you stories of from the world of television, but this news from GLP’s UK distributor Lighting Effects Distribution (LED) caught our collective eye.

The team recently supplied 48 GLP Impression moving head washlights - produced in a special-order chrome finish - to television lighting specialists, Richard Martin Lighting (RML).

RML operations manager, Steve Wells, said that they have been aware of the pedigree of these luminaires since LED’s Ian Kirby (UK distributor) first demonstrated them. “After that it was about getting this product in front of our clients, such as lighting directors, and letting them decide,” he said. “Having successfully conducted camera tests we then had to choose the right colour; the fixture has to be a visual effect in its own right and look nice in shot.”

After several colour trials, it wasn’t until this year’s PLASA Show that RML were able to see the chrome Impressions in all their glory, and they duly confirmed the order.

Through the use of 90 Luxeon K2 high performance LEDs (30 per colour), the GLP Impression reaches a light output that is higher than a washlight with a 575W discharge lamp. A further advantage is the movement of the Impression, which can pan through 660° in two seconds, with 300° of tilt.
