Clay Paky demo Alpha Beam 1500 at Royal Albert Hall

23 March 2009

(UK) Italian lighting manufacturer Clay Paky recently held a special demo at the Royal Albert Hall in London to showcase their new Alpha Beam 1500 moving head luminaire.

The fixture had been supplied by Clay Paky as part of a revitalised rig for the popular Classical Spectacular concert – held each year at the historic venue.

Classical Spectacular is a mix of theatrical lighting and popular classical music including: Rule, Britannia, Jerusalem, and Nessun Dorma.
The rig lighting designer Durham Merenghi comprised MAC 2000s, Vari-Lite 3500s, MAC 300s, and Atomic Strobes, but it was the addition of nine Alpha Beam 300s and ten Alpha Beam 1500 which which Merenghi was most impressed.

Equipped with a 1500W lamp and a special Clay Paky optical group enhancing the nominal light output, Alpha Beam 1500 creates a super-concentrated, super-bright, parallel light beam ideal for large scale shows and events. It can be used in arenas or stadia as a “very long throw” motorised lighting effect, featuring unlimited colors (CMY plus color wheel) and a variety of beam-shaping devices for mid-air effects and graphic projection. Further versatility is provided by an incredible array of features: an innovative focus system (patent pending), 14 gobos (6 rotating and 8 fixed), 2 rotating prisms, rotating beam shaper, 0-100% dimmer + precision dimmer on separate channels, mechanical iris, stop-strobe, 3 combinable linear frosts. Alpha Beam 1500 is ultra bright and “eco-friendly”: Alpha Beam 1500 is as effective and bright as fixtures requiring thousands if watts; therefore it is noticeable for its eco-friendly approach and for allowing significant energy savings.
