Singapore’s Republic Polytechnic Gets Nexo Acoustic Upgrade

One of Singapore’s leading educational institutions, the Republic Polytechnic, has completed the installation of a Nexo GEO S12 line array in its primary theatre at The Republic Cultural Centre (TRCC), designed by Japan-based Maki & Associates.

Under its fan-shaped roof, TRCC has three main performing arts venues, namely a 1,000-seat theatre, 300-seat studio and a120-seat lab, all of which are open to the public.

This is the first upgrade for the main theatre since its opening in 2007. With more international acts gracing its stage, and taking into account the evolving needs and criteria of modern shows, Mark Spencer, former student and Head of TRCC's Audio Division, felt it was time the audio caught up to speed.

“Audiences nowadays are more in tune with what's going on. They want quality at keen prices, and with the new upgrade, we not only plan to improve their experience, we plan to enhance it,” he said.

System integrators PAVE System replaced TRCC's old PA with Nexo GEO S12 line arrays. Two clusters are now hung from the ceiling with 10 cabinets per side, and all systems are driven by a Nexo NXAMP digital TD Controller Amplifier, the NXAMP4x4Cs.

Yamaha Music Asia is the official distributor of Nexo systems in Singapore. “We shipped the cabinets in from France even before PAVE won the tender. We wanted to ensure that if we were awarded the project, things would be able to proceed without a glitch,” commented Lawrence Tan, PA Sales & Marketing for Yamaha Asia.

PAVE and Yamaha won the project by meeting the theatre's criteria, specifying a system that could integrate with its existing system, for example, one that could continue to work with the four Nexo Alpha S2 subwoofers.

Speaking about the new upgrade, Mark commented: “We started 3 weeks behind schedule due to all the shows that were taking place, and when they finally managed to remove the old cluster to replace it with the new system, the fine tuning alone took 2 days.

“Overall, though, the installation was pretty smooth and I think everyone did a really great job. We have worked with Yamaha for many years and there is a familiar support there. We trust what they do and the working relationship is really good as well.  Now the theatre is as current as the acts that come through.”
