Sound Power Pilot Bar Fit-Outs with PR Lighting

Dominating the late night high street retail bars for the last two decades, Newcastle-based integrators Sound Power have standardised on PR Lighting moving spot and wash lights for their rig dynamics.

Over the years, the company has delivered literally hundreds of sites for leading high street brands, one of them being Yates’s — who have an established culture for high-specification technical interiors.

“In fact we have been using Pilot 150’s regularly since around 1996. It’s a totally failsafe product and we also use them in Yates’ bars all the time,” said Sound Power director, David Ridout.

When clients require more ambient FX than strident pulsed strobe lighting, Sound Power turn to the Pilot Wash 250 to provide a gentle wash to colour change the walls. This offers full CYM colour mixing and an additional colour wheel with six dichroic filters which can also be rotated continuously to create a rainbow effect.  “When trading patterns change to the evening the constant wash of colour from floor to ceiling is exactly what the clients want.”

Sound Power are also major users of PR Lighting’s versatile, high value Solo 250’s — which feature nine colours, seven interchangeable rotating gobos, an independent shutter for strobe effects, a rotating prism and remote focus — all in a beautifully designed body.

Like the other PR Lighting heads it is supplied by UK distributors MilTec (UK) Ltd., who also provide Sound Power with their own LED battens. “We have a long relationship with MilTec and receive excellent support,” says Ridout.

So what makes PR Lighting heads so irresistible? Principally the amount of features they provide at an incredible price point, states the Sound Power director. “You also have interchangeable gobos so we can create custom brand logos — as we did for the Que Pasa Latin/Spanish theme bars. These fixtures are also economical to run while lamp replacement of the HTI 150W’s is also inexpensive.”

Furthermore, PR Lighting moving heads offer good colour selection, gobo choice, beam angles, movement — and speed of response from the ShowMagic or ShowCAD controllers which the company specifies. They are also compact and discreet.

With the new year starting strongly, Sound Power director David Ridout sees no let up in the amount of technical infrastructures he expects to create — and PR Lighting heads will continue to play a central role in his specifications.
