ETC Source Fours Enhance Royal Danish Library's Stage

The Black Diamond, a concert hall at the Royal Library in Copenhagen, Denmark, has started using ETC Source Fours with enhanced definition lens tube (EDLT) to provide stunning backdrops for the stage.

Purchased as part of an ongoing project to equip the venue with ETC equipment, the venue found that they could mount the two new luminaires in front of the backdrop and project a Rosco Fiery Sun gobo for a bright, precise effect.

The Black Diamond technician Søren Jacobsen says: “I have worked with sound for over 25 years, but it’s only in the past three years that I have started working in lighting. Our local ETC dealer, Bico Professionel, has been really useful in helping me select the products I need and assisting with design and set up of the systems. We only needed a couple ETC Source Fours equipped with a 36º EDLT to provide a stunning effect. We projected the light from the front at a 10m distance: 45º horizontal and 30º vertical. There was a little distortion in the middle, but nothing significant. The producer and musicians were incredibly impressed.”

The EDLT turns any Source Four into a superior image projector with remarkably crisp, high contrast imaging with the most brightness available (even more than the regular Source Four). EDLT provides the greatest edge acuity (sharpness) available in a spotlight.

Hans Henrik Schmidt, sales consultant with Bico, adds: “After I showed Søren the ETC EDLTs at PLASA, he was very eager to try the lenses together with Rosco prismatic gobos. He realised that the combination could give some fantastic effects, and I think that he has done a great job with a few very effective tools.”

The set design is being used not only for concerts but also for corporate events and private hires. The Black Diamond is the newest part of is the national library of Denmark, which is the largest library in the Nordic countries. Designed by schmidt/hammer/lassen architects of Denmark, it was named for its outside cover of black marble and glass.
