The XIX Commonwealth Games recently took place in New Delhi, India, during the 3rd – 14th of October 2010. In view of the ensuing Commonwealth Games, the Chhatrasal Stadium in New Delhi was selected to be the training venue of the track and field events.

As such, the venue had to undergo a major renovation with Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit gracing the inauguration of the renovated Chhatrasal Stadium which has been renovated at a cost of Rs 70 crore (USD 15 million) which also includes installing a new PA system from Electro-Voice.

The new main PA system at Chhatrasal Stadium uses 34 cabinets of Electro-Voice Sx Series cabinets comprising of: Sx250, Sx300PI, and SxA250 speakers. Augmenting the Sx Series cabinets are a further 20 EVID 4.2t speakers.

The overall design of the sound reinforcement has the cabinets evenly spread throughout the venue and are mainly aimed pointed down for wider dispersion and also point towards the field which are used for voice evacuation. Taking into consideration, the aesthetics of the stadium, the cabinets were supplied in a White finish so that they could blend with the architecture.

Driving all the speakers are 13 units of Electro-Voice CPS 4.10 and CPS 4.5 Contractor Series 4-channel amplifiers together with Electro-Voice RCM-810 Remote Control Modules which allow the amplifiers to be integrated into a remote control network.

Processing is the EV NetMax N8000 Digital Matrix Controller equipped with: AI-1 + AO-1 cards for Analogue Input/Output, APD4+ cards for Antenna and Power Distribution, and CM-1 CobraNet networking cards. Located in the sound booth, the audio engineer’s new hardware now includes Dynacord CMS 1600 and Dynacord PowerMate PM1600 mixing consoles to distribute the programming and announcements throughout the stadium.
