K-array on Show in the Galleria

Milan's Teatro della Scala, the most famous opera house in the world, wanted to offer all citizens of Milan the chance to be at the inaugural opera of this new season. A giant screen with speakers was set up in the middle of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, Milan's prestigious shopping gallery in the centre of the city, which links Piazza della Scala, where you can find the opera house, to the square which holds the famous Milan Duomo.

K-array systems were chosen for the difficult task of providing sound for the thousands of Milanese who stopped inside the elegant building to take in this huge event in the Italian musical calender. K-array were also technical sponsors of the evening.
The first opera of the season traditionally takes place on the night of Sant'Ambrogio, the 7 December. The first night conductor was Maestro Daniel Baremboim, and the passionate Flight of the Valkyries was the piece which resounded around the walls and high roof of the plush Galleria, which is filled with all of the top Italian designer names at high prices. The use of K-arrays ensured the acoustic precision and power required for the city-centre spectators and passers by enjoying the live feed.
The giant screen was made up of 16 smaller screens and flanked by two quality K-array systems, made up of two KH4 heads and four KS4 subs. The system was provided by Exhibo who distribute K-array in Italy. The size of the live images and the importance of this social event meant that top class audio was needed and a projection that would cover the entire Galleria.
The KH4 and KS4 are aesthetically pleasing. They fit together as flat 112cm x 60cm rectangular panels at the sides of the screen and are remarkably only 16cm deep. Despite this, the K-arrays are designed for big events. They were easy to position (even with only two people), they are self-powering, fitted with internal processors and capable of delivering the highs and lows of opera music; each one guaranteeing up to 4,000W of power, ensuring that no one could be disappointed with the sound quality on the night, whether inside or outside the Teatro della Scala.
