Es Paradis

June / July 2008

San Antonio

This year's seasonal opening of Es Paradis invited its clubbers to indulge their new state of the art sound system, an experience that is sure to be a highlight of the summer.

Located in, what could be described as the music capital of the world, Es Paradis is situated on the waterfront of San Antonio, Ibiza.

Second only in longevity to the well known Pacha, Es Paradis opened in 1975. Owner Pepe Aguirre transformed the sleepy fishing village of San Antonio into a nightclubbing hotspot. He has been enticing British holidaymakers from the beginning to ensure the club’s success.
Nowadays the clubs hosts guest DJ parties, aqua parties and has a range of services on offers in each of its individual rooms around the club. The Gallery is a spacious lounge and is ideal for private parties. It also has its very own sound-proofed DJ cabin so the desired music style can be delivered to suit the clubbers individual taste. The best views of San Antonio bay and the superb Ibiza sunrise can also been seen from The Gallery. The V.I.P. Zone over the DJ’s cabin provides the best views of the whole club in an intimate atmosphere and with private waiter service. The Red Room is inspired by the Moulin Rouge.

This red lounge has a private bar and a large terrace from where you can spy what is going on. New this year is the introduction of the Prive Divine area. Clubbers who become members are treated to waiter service all night, entry through an exclusive door and discounts.

The décor throughout is quite unique being mainly white and ornate with roman style columns and marble features.  To further its individuality, Pepe made the decision, along with his long-standing consultant and experienced business partner, Victor Perez, to update the clubs sound systems. Luckily enough, loudspeaker specialist Tannoy were looking for a venue to launch their new VQ system on a worldwide scale. Both parties were in agreement for the new installation to go ahead.

Club manager Marisol Aguirre said: “We are always looking to improve the quality of the sound.” This, in turn acted as a design brief for the project. Tannoy’s new VQ range was launched just at the right time. Marisol said of them: “Working with the Tannoy team has been great.”

Es Paradis has been kitted out with two Tannoy VQ 60s, accompanying VQ DF (down fills) and six Tannoy VS 15HLs, meaning the main dance floor has once again become the real boiling pot of this 30-year old clubbing sensation. Elsewhere, 2 x VQ60s and 2 x VS218 subs have been installed on a secondary dance floor while a pair of V15s provides an effective monitoring system for the DJ booth.

Tannoy VQ was introduced at the Musikmesse Prolight Sound show in Frankfurt, in March. The system delivers a huge performance advantage when compared to acoustic sources, which consist of an HF compression driver and separate midrange driver each with their own horn. With VQ there is no interference between the midrange and high frequency at the crossover point in the vertical plane. VQ’s high sensitivity ensures exceptional SPL levels can be achieved with a very modest amount of amplifier power. As an example, the VQ60 will produce 115dB for 1 watt; and 138dB (144dB peak) for only 200 watts of amplifier power. As such, the Tannoy VQ is an excellent choice for the ultimate club experience. The new Tannoy installation in the area of the main dance floor replaces a phalanx of eight conventional systems. Just two VQ 60s with down-fills and six VS 15HLs were used for the acoustically challenging dance floor where the perfectly circular surface is compromised by reflective seating, which tended to bundle up the sound in the centre of the space. Three Lab.gruppen multichannel amplifiers power the VQ system. (Lab.gruppen is a sister company of Tannoy and part of the TC Group).

Tannoy’s Spanish distributor, Pro3, dealt with the distribution of the products to Es Paradis, where a freelancer completed the installation. Marisol said they are very satisfied with the results and as for Tannoy, they are also extremely pleased that an Ibizan club has put its faith and trust into their products.

Clubbers can now enjoy the usual mix of trance, hard dance, old school, urban sounds and funky house but with the added bonus of superb sound quality.
